  • Christmas party at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Please see flier sent home regarding $2 each student needs to bring for pizza. Thanks in advance to all the parents I have asked who are helping supply needs for the party.
  • Christmas break starts at noon Friday, December 17th. Students will resume classes again on Tuesday, January 4th.
  • What a wonderful Christmas program Thursday evening! I was so pleased all the students were on time and for their excellent participation while singing.

  • Spelling tests on Wednesday and Friday.
  • Verse due Friday: James 1:6
  • Christmas program Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in Worship Center. Children must be in the classroom by 6:30 p.m. Girls in dresses or skirts and boys in long sleeved shirts and nice pants. See sheet which was sent home or school website for more details. Our class made a video about Christmas cards and will be singing "God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen". Thank you for helping your child memorize the necessary verses.
  • Our Christmas party will be Friday, December 17th from 10:30 a.m. to noon. I have already secured most of the help. More information will be sent home closer to the date.
  • Please continue to instill in your children the importance of self-control even though they are excited for Christmas. We still have 2 weeks until vacation.
  • Our next field trip is January 13. We will be going to the Museum of the American West and Travel Town at Griffith Park . Let me know if you are interested in driving,

Proverbs 8:11 "For wisdom is better than jewels: And all desirable things can not compare with her."
The following are due after Thanksgiving break:

  • Spelling tests-Wednesday and Friday
  • Chapter 5 test in English on verbs Tuesday
  • Chapter 10 test in Heritage Studies on Wednesday over U.S. holidays
  • Book report on Wednesday on "My America", 'Dear America", or "American girl" series book. Project choices are a letter, diorama, or dress-up as stated on project sheet sent home.
  • We will be video taping our part for the Christmas program on Wednesday with Miss Dorman. If your child received a speaking part, please be sure he or she is ready to recite part from memory. Also please help your child memorize the highlighted verses on the song "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" as we will be singing that song in the concert on Thursday, December 9th after our video of Christmas cards is shown. Students should have brought home song Friday with spelling list and test schedule.
  • Have a wonderful break thanking the Lord for all He has done for us!

  • Spelling tests on Wednesday and Friday.
  • The holiday report is due Wednesday. Students may bring an item to show ,food to sample, or wear something to represent the holiday. Be sure all areas on report form are filled in.
  • Bible verse is due on Friday.
  • Bible test on lessons 10-12 will be on Friday.
  • The America Heritage Day program will be in the Worship Center at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Our class will be performing "Yankee Doodle" on the recorders and accompanying the 2nd graders as they sing the song. Please join us if you are able. Students may be dismissed after the program if desired.
  • Thanksgiving break will be November 22-26.

Proverbs 8:1 "Does not wisdom call, And understanding lift up her voice?"

  • Chap. 3 Math test on Wednesday.
  • Holiday report due on November 17th. All students selected a holiday to report on in class to enhance our unit in Heritage Studies on American holidays. The children were also given a form to fill out and they may bring in any visual or taste samples to go along with their report.
  • Spelling tests on Wednesday and Friday.
  • Memory verse due on Friday-Proverbs 3:5-6
  • The next book report will be due on December 1st. Information will be sent home this Wednesday.
  • American Heritage Day is Friday, the 19th. The class will be playing their recorders. The program will be in the Worship Center at 10:30 a.m. This is an optional half day. The children may be dismissed after the program.
  • I still need one parent for the physical fitness testing on the 18th. If you would like to help, please let me know ASAP. Thanks.

Proverbs 7:4 "Say to wisdom,' You are my sister,' And call understanding your intimate friend."

  • Children need to know their home address and phone number for Monday as we will be addressing envelopes and filling out forms in English class.
  • Spelling tests on Wednesday and Friday.
  • Chapter 6 test on Monday in Heritage Studies. The workbook was sent home today to go over the study questions and we took a practice test today to review.
  • Wednesday is the chapter 4 test in English over friendly letters.
  • The Bible verse is due on Friday- Proverbs 3:3-4
  • Congratulations to Anthony Spearman for receiving the October Good Citizen.
  • Our field trip to the Los Encinos State Historic Park went smoothly. We enjoyed learning about the home, the spring, making butter, and feeding ducks. Thanks again to all the parents who drove.

Proverbs 5:1 "My son, give attention to my wisdom, Incline your ear to my understanding."
  • We made it through the first quarter!
  • Don't forget to send the permission slip and $2 for the upcoming field trip to the Los Encinos State Historic Park on Thursday. All the details were sent home today-Friday.
  • Thanks to all the birthday children who supplied treats for the October party today. We had five students celebrating: Anthony Spearman, Michael George, Jacob Orrill, Joshua Franco, and Paola Duarte.
  • Congratulations to all the students who receive 100% all quarter in spelling: Joshua Franco, Michael George, Sophia Lang, Vania Linares, Alyssa Lui, Maya Martinez, Stefani Posadas, Joseph Ramirez, and Jamie Woodhouse.
  • Thank you parents for getting your children to school and on time this quarter. It was a blessing to pass out so many perfect attendance awards to the class today.
  • On Monday I am asking the class to bring in items from various states. A blue card with details to be filled out by your child was sent home today along with the Heritage Studies book to assist with information. We will create a "state museum" with our findings.
  • On Wednesday we will be sampling foods that are representative of the various regions during Heritage Studies.
  • Don't forget the October book report is due on Wednesday. The projects are a cereal box, mobile, or quiz over the "If You" series book.
  • Spelling tests will be on Wednesday and Friday as usual.
  • The memory verse is due on Friday and we will also have a Bible test on Friday over lessons 7-9.
  • Mr. Nelson will be giving the "hymn of the month" test on Wednesday in music class.

  • Memory verse-Psalm 1:5 due Friday
  • October birthday party on Friday, October 22 at 2:45 p.m.
  • The October book report is due Wednesday, October 27th
  • Our field trip to the Los Encinos State Historic Park is October 28th. Permission slips and flyers will be sent home next week.
  • The next Good Citizen award will be presented on October 29th at a special chapel at the end of the day.
  • Next week is the end of the first quarter. Thank you parents for having your children present regularly and for making sure homework assignments are completed on time.
  • Please pray for our students to see the importance of self-control in the special area classes and that respect for special area teachers is expected.

  • Tuesday is the chapter 2 test in math over time, money , and the calendar.
  • Wednesday and Friday are the spelling tests.
  • The memory verse, Psalm 1:4 is due Friday: oral/written testing.
  • Friday is the chapter 2 English test over nouns.
  • The October birthday party is the 22nd at 2:45 p.m.
  • Our first field trip will be on Thursday, October 28th to the Los Encinos State Historic Park. Lots of hands-on activities for the children in a beautiful setting. Let me know if you are interested in driving parents! (10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.)
  • The children should have brought home the October book report information. The book must be from the "If You" series on various topics in American History. Most children have already selected a title form my collection or the school library. It will be due on the 27th.

Proverbs 3:13 "How blessed is the man who finds wisdom And the man who gains understanding."
  • The physical map project is due on Monday. We look forward to seeing all the creative interpretations of the assignment.
  • A "rendezvous" is scheduled for Tuesday in Heritage Studies class or a trading party. Details were sent home in the test/quiz schedule. This is an optional activity. This will highlight our study of mountain men.
  • The Glendale Centre Theatre cancelled the performance of "Beauty and the Beast" for Wednesday because there were not enough schools signed up. Therefore our class will not be going on a field trip Wednesday. Our next trip is October 28th to the Los Encinos State Historic Park in Encino.
  • Spelling test on Wednesday and Friday.
  • Verse due on Friday as usual.
  • Bible test on Friday over lessons 4-6.
  • Congratulations to Joseph Ramirez for being our first Good Citizen of the school year!

  • Wednesday, October 6th will be our 1st field trip. We will see"Beauty and the Beast" at the Glendale Centre Theatre. Afterwards we will picnic at Brand Park. A flyer and permission slip is on the way.

  • Friday, October 8th is school picture day. Individual and class photos will be taken.

  • Great job on the first book report plus everyone completed their projects on time!

  • The September birthdays include Hannah Bolden and Abby Hall. We enjoyed the treats today (Friday, September 24th) and the class party.

  • Thanks for sending in the Highlights information. We earned a free subscription for our class!

  • I will be sending home info on the physical map project due October 4th next week. This will be a fun opportunity for the children to put into practice what we have been learning in Heritage Studies. I will have photos of last year's projects so you can get ideas as to what is expected.

  • Highlights sheet due Friday. You do not have to order the magazine, but if everyone turns the sheet in we can receive a free subscription for our class.
  • NO SCHOOL on Monday due to Labor Day holiday.
  • Thank you for turning in the emergency cards. I need a copy to take on field trips, so your promptness is so appreciated.
  • Thank you for helping your children get their supplies here quickly as well. I especially am grateful that all the Kleenex boxes, spiral notebooks which we use for journals, and folders for homework and papers were brought.
  • Thank you for the all the parents who have turned in volunteer automobile permission forms to assist in driving on our field trips. Your assistance in the future will be so helpful.

Psalm 19:1
"The heavens are telling of the glory ofGod: And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands."
  • Our study on the solar system is really fun for the students. We have made charts, constellations, and rockets as we learn various terms.
  • Our final book report on an informational book is due on Wednesday.
  • The spelling tests will be on Wednesday and Friday as usual.
  • The last memory verse, Matthew 5:16 is due Friday.
  • Enough parents have volunteered to help with the picnic, so I no longer need any help. Thanks for the quick response to serv our class in this way.
  • Belated congratulations to Ayumi DeHerrera for receiving the last Good Citizen. She was recognized at the Mother/Child tea.
  • Seventeen students earned the "Dynamite Divider" award Friday. These students all received 100% on the 2 minute tests. We are winding down and just 2 weeks to try to finish them all up.
